After the Catholic holiday of All Saints, better known along with Halloween, comes the Bulgarian holiday of folk revivalists. The Orthodox Church also celebrates its saints, the feast is on the first Sunday after Pentecost. Not very popular.
But Bulgaria has found a way to honor its saints.
This recalls on "Facebook" Georgi Daskalov.
The real Bulgarian All Saints Day is actually November 1.
Then we honor the people's awakeners, the Bulgarian saints, many of whom the Bulgarian Orthodox Church has recognized as such. The Thessalonica brothers Cyril and Methodius and their disciples - Clement, Naum, Sava, Angelarius, Gorazd - Saints of the Septuagint (it is unknown why Constantine of Preslav was not canonized, so the church does not include him), Ivan of Rila, Patriarch Euthymius, Paisius of Hilendar, Sophronius of Vrachan are saints of the Orthodox Church, but also saints of Bulgarian memory.
The holiday of folk wakers is one of the few Bulgarian holidays that is not primarily related to eating and drinking. Most Bulgarian holidays, ever since the Conversion, are closely connected with pagan animal sacrifices, which are then eaten together.
Under socialism, holidays – the official – were also popularized to the point that restaurants had May Day, September 9, and March 8 menus. As a rule – three kebabs with garnish and beer.
On May 24 and November 1, we don't burn anything, we don't set heavy tables, but we honor the people of the spirit, those who have protected us, preserved us as a people.
Now many are angry that Halloween overshadows alarm clocks. And there are those who are angry at the anger of the first.
There is no room for competition. One did not reach the other. Halloween is a fun, soulless commercialized experience. It's already all over the world.
Awakening Day is a day to remember. Day of All Bulgarian Saints.
Happy holiday.
