Boxing legend Floyd Mayweather announced in a statement that he wants to return to the professional ring, AFP reported, BTA reported.
"I still have the opportunity to achieve new records in boxing", said the American, who is 48 years old and retired in 2017 at a time when he remained undefeated in 50 fights.
Mayweather, who will turn 49 on Tuesday, announced in September last year that in the spring of 2026 he would participate in an exhibition match against another legend - Tye Tyson. The date and venue of the fight have not yet been announced by the organizers.
Mike Tyson, who will celebrate his 60th birthday in June, stepped into the ring in November 2024 after losing to YouTuber Jake Paul.
Mayweather has not fought since his August 2017 victory over Irishman Conor McGregor, a former MMA star. He has since had exhibition fights in Miami, Mexico and Japan.
The American is known for his speed, technique and ability to dodge his opponent's punches. His comeback is reminiscent of that of his former rival from the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao, who returned to the ring last summer at the age of 46. Mayweather beat Pacquiao in their only fight in May 2015.
