The Swedish giant Scania has once again demonstrated technological superiority, expanding its portfolio of electric trucks with a truly impressive model. Their first heavy-duty electric truck with an 8x4 configuration has been introduced, which has two steerable front axles - an innovation that dramatically increases its load capacity and maneuverability.

It is no coincidence that the new dump truck is named after Odin's mythical horse - Sleipnir. In Norse mythology, Sleipnir is an eight-legged stallion, a symbol of unparalleled strength, power and unconditional reliability. This name is more than appropriate for the machine, which is specially designed to cope with some of the toughest conditions in the world - those at the LKAB mine in Malmbergen, northern Sweden.

At the heart of this colossal power lies Scania's flexible modular platform, which allowed engineers to create the vehicle in an extremely short time. As for its operating parameters, they are impressive: the dump truck has a payload of 38 tonnes and achieves a gross weight of an impressive 60 tonnes.

To power this electric giant, Scania has integrated two MP-20 battery packs with a total capacity of 416 kWh. These energy stores power the EM C 1-4 electric motor, which generates 400 kW of power. This configuration is key to its daily task: transporting rock mass along a 5-kilometer route, which includes a serious elevation difference of 250 meters, from the loading station to the backfilling site.

The development of the Sleipnir model is based on a solid foundation - the successful three-axle Scania 6x4 electric dump truck, which has been operating in the same Malmbergen mine since 2022. This accumulated experience gives confidence that the new electric truck will become a benchmark for environmental efficiency and heavy-duty transport in the mining industry.
