The German chemical concern BASF has published a ranking of the popularity of car paints for the last year. It is noteworthy that the first "troika" remains unchanged - white, black and silver.
More specifically, in 2023, 29% of cars on the world market were white, gray - 21%, black - 20%. In Europe, these colors account for 81% of new car sales. The remaining 19% are chromatic shades (red, blue, brown and others).
Usually the white color is in the standard line of each model. But, as BASF notes, over the years it has lost popularity, giving way to black. For example, since 2018, dark gray dominates in Europe.
At the same time, the preferences of Europeans vary by country. Germans prefer blue (11%), Spaniards and British - red and orange (9%), French - green (6%). But most often cars with bright colors are bought by Italians - 30%.
Also, drivers' preferences depend on the vehicle category. In Europe, the white-grey-black range is leading in every segment, but the chromatic colors vary. Compact buyers choose blue (12%), red (4%) and green (2%). Among city cars and small urban crossovers, red (8%) and blue (9%) are in demand.
According to BASF forecasts, color preferences will change in the coming years. This is due to the fact that manufacturers are increasingly including bright shades in the standard range.
