Alleged battery capacities for the upcoming iPhone 16 series have surfaced today, albeit from a source with no proven track record of accuracy. The standard iPhone 16 battery will reportedly have a capacity of 3,561 mAh, which is 6% more than its predecessor. Conversely, the iPhone 16 Plus is rumored to have a 4,006 mAh battery, which is a 9% reduction compared to the iPhone 15 Plus. While slight reductions in battery size are not uncommon in new models, they are not common either.
On the Pro model side, the iPhone 16 Pro is rumored to have a 3,355 mAh battery, which is slightly 2.5% larger than its predecessor. Meanwhile, the Pro Max variant is said to have a 4,676 mAh battery, which is a 5% increase over the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
This leak is the first time battery capacity has been revealed for the four iPhone 16 models, which is in line with a previous rumor, albeit without mentioning the iPhone 16 Pro.
As for the alleged reduction in battery size on the iPhone 16 Plus, it is possible that improvements in the performance of the system on a chip (SoC), the display, or both will make up for this difference in practical use. Therefore, even if these rumors turn out to be true, there may be no cause for alarm.
The official launch of the iPhone 16 family is expected to take place in September this year during Apple's annual event.
