New cars increasingly focus on high-tech gadgets, but connecting a user's smartphone to the car is still cumbersome. Polestar aims to change that by making the connection between its vehicles and the driver's pocket devices as seamless as possible.
To achieve this goal, the company has developed the Polestar Phone, designed specifically for consumers who buy its electric cars. The new smartphone has a beautiful white back with the Polestar logo in the middle, an impressive metal edge and four camera lenses.
Unfortunately, the automaker has yet to reveal the specifications of the phone, leaving us in the dark about its capabilities. However, according to Tom's Guide, the screen appears to have a 21:9 aspect ratio, hinting at a possible 6.5-inch display.
The Polestar brand turned to the Chinese technology company Meizu for help in creating the device. Both companies are owned by Geely, which undoubtedly facilitates cooperation. However, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath emphasized that this is not just a case of sticking the Polestar logo on the back of a Meizu phone. Both the phone and the Polestar 4 infotainment system will run on the FlyMe operating system.
According to Ingenlath, this project gave Polestar the opportunity to “bring together these two worlds of technology and cars without borders”. We'll soon learn more about the Polestar phone and its fully integrated features, as the automaker is expected to reveal all of the phone's specifications and retail price next week.
