Factorial, which has been producing lithium-metal solid-state battery cells for research for some time, provided Mercedes-Benz with a batch of its new batteries for testing. Factorial is known to have supplied Mercedes-Benz with more than 1,000 solid-state cells with a capacity of over 100 Ah.
„We are happy to reach this important milestone with a global automotive leader like Mercedes-Benz. The rapid transition from the first exploratory samples to a near-finished product in less than a year highlights our innovation capabilities, and we continue to actively develop to accelerate the adoption of solid-state batteries in the automotive industry, “ said Factorial.
With higher-capacity solid-state cells available, Mercedes-Benz will begin integrating them into modules designed for electric vehicles, hoping one day to offer them to consumers in its production passenger cars.
„We are committed to leading innovation in battery technology and our partnership with Factorial is an important part of that strategy. These batteries give us the opportunity to further test next-generation technology to increase the electric vehicle's range and reduce overall costs, “ added Markus Schaefer, Chief Technical Officer and Member of the Board of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.
Mercedes-Benz said it will monitor Factorial's supply chain and manufacturing processes to ensure true scalability of manufacturing processes. Factorial is also known to have joint development agreements with Stellantis, Hyundai Motor Company and KIA Corporation.
