This week Tatra Trucks will show its first hybrid truck Force e-Drive 8x8 with a hybrid drive system. this will happen within the framework of the clean mobility exhibition E-Salon in Prague.
And although the manufacturer has not yet disclosed the technical characteristics, the brand is heating up the interest of carriers in the new product. The emphasis, they write on their Facebook page, is placed on the combination of an internal combustion engine and an electric motor-generator with traction batteries.
There will be several modes of operation of the hybrid installation. Everything is done with the aim of maximally reducing harmful emissions and reducing the thermal footprint. That is why the manufacturer promises efficient use of the electric motor and traction batteries.
The teaser images show a four-door cab version that is similar to this year's development of the Tatra Force 8x8 truck project for military orders. Obviously, it will be the basis for all Tatra Force models, including the hybrid one. Plans also include the release of a shorter cabin with two doors.
Both versions will have a number of safety features, an improved interior and a digitized dashboard with modern electronics. Compared to the previous generation, this version's cabs in both the short (two-door) and long (four-door) models have an updated frame with modern design features for increased passenger safety and improved visibility.
As you can see from the photos, there is a proven Tatra concept chassis, which is based on a central load tube with pivoting independently sprung half-axles. The third generation Tatra Force is expected to have even better handling characteristics on rough roads and off-road than the previous second.
As for the power potential, there are only guesses here, as there is no mention of the electric motor and batteries yet. Either an available 340kW electronically controlled air-cooled V8 or a more powerful 440kW V12.
The manufacturer offers a similar configuration for the Tatra Force 8x8 in the domestic market, and for external deliveries the Force will be with Cummins engines or an all-new Caterpillar engine for this series, which has two power outputs from 392 kW to 447 kW and torque up to 2 250 Nm. As experts note, something from this set will also make its way to the hybrid version.
Hybrid powertrain work has been announced since the summer, but the manufacturer hasn't revealed any details so far. Apparently, the intrigue will continue until November 7, when Tatra will talk about its hybrid car with an internal combustion engine and an electric motor during its debut presentation.
