Intuitive Machines has unveiled the Moon RACER rover designed to operate on the Moon . Created in collaboration with Roush, this autonomous electric rover features advanced technology and design beyond the capabilities of Apollo-era rovers.
The spacecraft was first demonstrated on November 7 in the parking lot of Space Center Houston and was shown to the public and participants at National STEM Day at Johnson Space Center on November 8. Moon RACER can operate in both manned and autonomous modes, making it versatile for future NASA missions.
Thanks to cooperation with Roush for the creation of the chassis and Michelin for the development of the tires, the all-terrain vehicle is equipped with powerful communication antennas and trailers with additional equipment. It can be controlled manually or remotely from Earth.
NASA plans to test Moon RACER at the Moon's south pole ahead of the Artemis 5 mission, scheduled for 2030. If successful, the rover could become one of the key vehicles for exploring the lunar surface, and its development already shows great potential for future space missions.
