One in three cars has defective headlights - 1

With the onset of the short bright day, the light devices of the cars enter an intensive mode of operation, but it turns out that that every third of them not with well-adjusted headlights.

In October, almost four million cars visited garages to check the lighting devices on their cars, and it was on this basis that the study was made that identified this problem.

According to the VerkehrsRundschau, citing statistics from the Central Association of German Automobile Dealers (ZDK) and the German Road Traffic Control (DVW), only two-thirds of cars on the road in Europe have properly functioning headlights.

During the current season, 33.1 percent (last year it was 33.6%) of light trucks had light defects, and among passenger cars every fourth failed the test - 25.3% (last year 27.4%).

The fact that a third of commercial vehicles and a quarter of cars are still on Europe's roads with faulty lighting is avoidable. The security risk increases unnecessarily in the winter season because the day is shorter.

Therefore, all motorists are encouraged to regularly check the headlights of their cars, especially now in the fall and winter, and to rectify any malfunctions immediately.

"Current fault statistics show how important light remains in modern lighting systems," says ZDK president Arne Josvig. What is interesting here is the distribution of the main faults and deviations.

As the analysis shows, a large number of vehicles have defects in the headlights. Headlights that are set to shine too high and create the effect of blinding oncoming traffic were found in 14.9% of the cars checked.

"A third of commercial vehicles with faulty lighting is a worrying indicator, but definitely preventable. The light test remains an indispensable tool for ensuring safety on the roads - especially in the dark season, when regular checks on vehicle lighting are crucial, adds the president of Germany's Traffic Watch, Kirsten Lühmann.

The rear lights of 19.5% of vehicles also do not work normally (last year 11.5%). Headlights set too low, with a short range and limited illumination of the road were detected in 7.4% of cases (previous year: 7.7%).

In Germany, in all workshops participating in the program, lighting specialists check the full functionality of the car's lighting free of charge and issue stickers, but in case of non-compliance, troubleshooting work is already a paid service.

We remind you that the light test has existed in Germany since 1956 and has always been free. This event is jointly organized by the aforementioned ZDK and DVW. The testing is conducted under the patronage of the Federal Ministry of Transport. In our country, unfortunately, such a service is only paid for and is performed by a few repair shops.
