NATO is considering options for shooting down Russian missiles that fly towards the territory of one of the member states of the Alliance. This was stated by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, Andrzej Schejna, in an interview with RMF FM.
"NATO is analyzing various concepts, in particular that such missiles should be shot down when they are already very close to the Alliance's border - but this should be done with the consent of the Ukrainian side and taking into account the international consequences. Then the NATO missiles would hit Russian missiles outside the North Atlantic Treaty area”, Sheina explained.
According to him, Russia should not impose any rules on the Alliance.
"She has to get used to the fact that NATO countries, democratic countries, the EU will start setting a certain tone when it comes to resolving the conflict in Ukraine,” Sheina also noted.
On March 24, 2024, Russian forces launched a massive attack on Ukraine, firing missiles from Tu-95MS. During the attack, one of the missiles flew into Poland, where it stayed for more than half a minute and "returned” in Ukraine.
The Polish Ministry of Defense expressed confidence that if the Russian missile had flown a little further, deeper into the country, it would have been shot down.
