Vladimir Putin signed: 150,000 Russians are called up for conscription - 1

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree for spring conscription, and 150,000 people are expected to be mobilized, TASS reported.

According to the new rules, which entered into force on January 1, citizens of the Russian Federation between the ages of 18 and 30 will be subject to military service (with the exception of those who turned 27 before the end of 2023 and those who are 28 or 29 years old or in stock).

"From April 1 to July 15, 2024, to carry out conscription of citizens of the Russian Federation aged 18 to 30 who are not in the reserve and are subject to conscription, in the amount of 150,000 people" ;, is stated in the decree.

The decree also orders the release from military service of soldiers, sailors, sergeants and senior officers whose term of conscription has expired. The Government of the Russian Federation, regional authorities and recruitment commissions are charged with ensuring the implementation of all necessary activities within the framework of the recruitment service.

Colonel-General Yevgeny Burdinsky, head of the Main Organizational and Mobilization Department of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Russia, announced earlier that the term of conscription remains unchanged at one year. In the "special operation" (the war in Ukraine) will not involve servicemen called up for service during the spring campaign, Burdinsky also emphasized.

For the new conscription age

As of January 1, the law that raises the enlistment age to 30 came into force.

As the chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee Andrey Kartapolov previously explained, "those citizens who (turned) 27 years old in 2023, even on December 31 at 11:59 p.m., these citizens become mandatory for military reserve and are not subject to military service in 2024. Those who are now 28, 29 (years old), they are already a reserve," added Kartapolov.

Also, a deferment from conscription is granted to citizens working in accredited IT companies until reaching the age of 30. The idea of changing the conscription age limits was proposed at the end of 2022 by Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu.
