Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic plans to discuss with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron the purchase of 12 Rafale fighter jets, Serbian Novosti reported.
"In any case, we will continue with the purchase. If we can't buy the Rafale, we will buy something else. We have to consider the region. As a militarily neutral country, we must be stronger to preserve our neutrality," Vucic said.
Previously, Vucic commented that Belgrade remains committed to the purchase of Rafale fighter jets from the French company Dassault, but is also considering the purchase of aviation weapons from other countries.
According to the Serbian president, Belgrade is discussing both the prices of combat aircraft with the French side and the price of the corresponding weapons with other countries. As Vucic noted, the talks with France also discussed the type of missiles that could be used on their fighter jets. He has indicated that Paris has no intention of selling its Meteor air-to-air missile to a non-NATO country.
