The President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier called on the Germans to join forces to deal with the many crises, DPA reported , quoted by BTA.

"We must take charge of our destiny", writes Steinmeier in his book "Wir" ("We"), which presented in its official residence - the Palace "Bellevue" in Berlin.

"We know what Germany can be: a country that has resisted pressure and found its way," he wrote.

Steinmeier advocates more cooperation between the government and the opposition on key issues, for state reform, and for a new, careful, not arrogant, patriotism - "patriotism with quiet tones".

The president's lengthy essay is published on the occasion of Germany's double political anniversary this year. 75 years ago the Basic Law (constitution) came into force in West Germany, and 35 years ago the citizens of East Germany tore down the Berlin Wall. According to the president, both events should be seen as pan-German.

Steinmeier said at the book launch that in 1989 the people of East Germany yearned "to be given the same rights that West Germans enjoyed.

"The fact that this dream has come true, that the freedoms of the Basic Law have been applied to all Germans since 1990, is indeed a cause for celebration,", adds the head of state.
