The United States is considering selling more than $1 billion worth of arms to Israel, reports the " Wall Street Journal".
The deal will include tank ammunition, military vehicles and mortars, US officials familiar with the matter said.
It stressed that the proposed arms transfers - which would be in addition to those in a military aid agreement currently before Congress - would be among the largest for Israel since the start of the ground operation in Gaza.
The deal comes at a time of heightened scrutiny over the use of US weapons in the war in the Palestinian enclave.
The proposal reportedly provides Israel with $700 million worth of tank ammunition, $500 million worth of tactical vehicles and less than $100 million worth of mortars.
Iran's attack on Israel on Saturday has reportedly created a sense of urgency for the long-awaited US foreign aid bill.
However, the sale would require congressional approval, and delivery of the equipment could take "months or years".
The US assures that arms deals with Israel serve to strengthen the country's defense capabilities. The other bill, already in Congress, would allocate $4 billion to support Israeli and US military operations in the Middle East.
