The European Union is preparing a 14th package of sanctions against Russia for its ongoing military invasion of Ukraine. This was announced today by a high-ranking representative of the EU, quoted by DPA, writes BTA.
The measures will include freezing the assets available in the EU countries of individuals and organizations that have so far not been hit by the sanctions against Moscow, diplomats say.
The European Commission is expected to present its proposal on the new sanctions package next week. It foresees measures against individuals and organizations that support attempts to circumvent the existing EU sanctions against the rulers in Moscow, the high-ranking representative of the European Union points out.
Companies that own or operate oil tankers carrying Russian oil in violation of sanctions are expected to be affected. Russia uses the so-called "spooky" fleet of tankers to circumvent the restrictions, analysts say.
The previous package of sanctions against Russia - the 13th in a row - was passed in February, on the eve of the second anniversary of the start of the full-scale Russian military invasion of Ukraine. It is aimed at further limiting Russia's access to military technology, including drones. The sanctions, approved in February, affect 106 individuals and 88 organizations, Reuters recalls.
