German Chancellor Olaf Scholz believes that the war in Ukraine can dragged on for a few more years, BTA reported.
No one can say whether this war will not last even five years, for example, said Scholz, who this evening took part in a discussion in the city of Chemnitz organized by the newspaper "Frei Presse". The forum was titled: "Germany under pressure. How can the government coalition act under the new conditions“.
Scholz defended the provision of military aid to Kiev, but added that diplomacy should also be developed.
Since the war in Ukraine began, however, Russian President Vladimir Putin has given no signs of change. A peace imposed by diktat is unacceptable, Scholz stressed. "He should not be allowed to escape responsibility," added the German chancellor.
The discussion in Chemnitz was attended by about 200 readers of the "Freire Presse", as well as other guests. The event was broadcast live on the Internet.
