The fire on the territory of the Diehl Metal Applications plant, which is part of the defense-industrial concern Diehl Group, was extinguished three days later, it was reported agency DPA with reference to a representative of the fire department in Berlin.
A total of about 200 firefighters worked at the scene. One of the companies is entrusted with the demolition of burning buildings. The causes of the fire, which started last Friday around 10:30 local time in one of the technical rooms, are still unknown. The investigation is ongoing.
Diehl Metal Applications manufactures a variety of alloys, pipe products, metal profiles and fittings. The main engineering concern Diehl Group, in addition to civilian products, produces IRIS-T air defense systems, various munitions, detection and communication systems. As Der Spiegel magazine writes, citing sources from the concern, the fire did not affect the production process of the IRIS-T systems, which in particular are delivered to Ukraine. The Diehl Group clarifies that the company in Berlin was engaged in galvanization, that is, a metal coating on the surface of other metal products for the automotive industry.
