The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, called on Israel and the Lebanese Shiite group "Hezbollah" to adhere to the ceasefire agreement, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

"It is now crucial that the ceasefire remains in place as agreed and to allow internally displaced people on both sides of the border to return to their homes,'' Borrell said in a statement.

Furthermore, the top EU diplomat insisted that the sovereignty of Israel and Lebanon be fully respected and that cross-border attacks be stopped. He called on regional and international forces to actively support the ceasefire.

Borrell assured Lebanon that the EU would continue to provide it with humanitarian aid and that it would assist in its recovery efforts.

The ceasefire came into effect on Wednesday morning. Although heavy fighting has ceased, on Thursday Israel and Lebanon traded accusations of violating the agreement.

The leader of the Yemeni Houthi rebels called on the groups from the so-called "Axis of resistance" operating in Yemen and Iraq to proceed with "further escalation" of his opposition to Israel, DPA reported.

Abdul Malik al-Houthi made the call in a statement following the entry into force of a ceasefire agreement between the Lebanese Shiite group "Hezbollah" and Israel.

It is important "Axis of resistance" to build on what was achieved on the Lebanese front and to proceed with further escalation, especially on the fronts of Iraq and Yemen," al-Houthi said. "The Iraqi front is strong and important. Thanks to its capacity and with God's help, this front can be more effective in confronting the Israeli enemy," he added.

The "Axis of Resistance," which includes Iran's regional allies, has repeatedly attacked Israel since the war in the Gaza Strip began more than a year ago. Besides "Hezbollah" in Lebanon and "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip, to the "Axis of Resistance" also belong to some militias in Iraq, as well as the Houthis in Yemen.

Yemen rebels attacked Israel with missiles and drones and launched attacks on ships in the Red Sea. US and Israeli military forces have repeatedly struck targets in Yemen in response to the rebels' actions.
