Viktor Orbán: Russian army has no combat capacity to attack NATO - 1

The fears that Russia will attack a NATO member state are groundless. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, emphasizing that the already three-year war in Ukraine shows the limits of Russia's capabilities, reported "Reuters".

In an interview with public radio, Orbán said that "if the Russians were strong enough to fight the Ukrainians, they would have already done it.

The prime minister stressed that NATO's military capabilities far exceed those of Ukraine, so the likelihood of Russia or another country attacking the organization is small.

"I don't think it's logical for Russia, which can't even defeat Ukraine, to suddenly come and swallow the whole Western world," Orbán said. "The chances of this are extremely small."

According to Viktor Orbán, references to the Russian threat are "prelude" to the further intervention of the West in the war in Ukraine.

We recall that Hungary refused to provide military aid to Ukraine after the full-scale invasion of Russia in February 2022. Budapest is also seeking to abandon NATO's long-term plan to help Ukraine.

Hungary's prime minister has built his campaign for the June 9 European Parliament election on avoiding further involvement in the conflict, saying the vote could determine the course of war and peace in Europe.

On May 17, Hungarians vetoed the Council of Europe's resolution on Ukraine, as the draft document provided for the recognition of only the peace plan of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The country also did not agree on the unfreezing of Russian assets to be used for the purchase of weapons for Ukraine.

On May 21, the EU countries today decided to direct the proceeds from the frozen assets of the Russian Central Bank to the benefit of Ukraine.
