German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, during his visit to Odessa, announced a new arms package for Ukraine of 500 million euros. Pistorius met with his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov to discuss Ukraine's military needs.
Pistorius underlined Germany's unwavering support for Ukraine, saying: “We will continue to support you in this defense campaign”. He assured that the delivery of some weapons was already underway, demonstrating Germany's quick response to Ukraine's needs.
The comprehensive package aims to significantly strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities. It includes a vast array of missiles for the IRIS-T SLM medium-range air defense systems, complemented by a selection of short-range SLS missiles.
In addition, the aid includes drones designed for both reconnaissance and combat missions in the Black Sea, underscoring the strategic importance of maritime defense.
To ensure the durability and efficiency of the previously supplied German equipment, the package also contains essential spare parts. These include barrels for artillery systems and engines for Leopard tanks, meeting urgent maintenance needs. Ukraine will receive one million units of ammunition for small arms.
Details of Minister Pistorius' visit were kept secret until his arrival in Odessa.
