The Ukrainian Company " "Ukrhydroenergo" has initiated an international arbitration for compensation due to Russia's destruction of the Kakhovka dam; and power plant in June 2023, reports "Reuters".

The state hydroelectric company estimated the damage at 2.5 billion euros.

Reservoir "Kahovka" - one of six dams on the Dnieper River, which crosses central and southern Ukraine, was captured by Moscow at the start of the war in February 2022.

Russian forces blew up the dam on the night of June 6, 2023, flooding vast swathes of farmland, leaving tens of thousands of people without drinking water, and Europe's largest nuclear power plant without enough cooling water of the reactors.

"The company's actions are aimed at compensating for the losses caused by the destruction of the Kakhovka hydropower plant", Ukrhydroenergo said. and add that, according to the company, the initiation of international arbitration is the most promising way to compensate for losses.

"Ukrhydroenergo" states that the Russian president, government and other authorized bodies have been officially notified of the case.

Electricity from Ukrainian hydroelectric plants was a key energy source for Ukraine. However, the company's headquarters were repeatedly targeted by Russian missile attacks.

According to data of "Ukrhydroenergo" since the beginning of the invasion, Russia has fired over 110 missiles at the company's stations.
