The DPRK military may be working on building fortifications or a long wall in the demilitarized zone on the border with South Korea. Yonhap Agency made this assumption, citing its sources.
The North Korean military is erecting walls, excavating the ground and building roads in some parts of the demilitarized zone. He also noted that the nature of the work remains unclear and suggested that the DPRK is building a long wall or creating fortifications.
Yonhap previously reported that a group of North Korean soldiers accidentally crossed the Military Demarcation Line with South Korea on June 9. The Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Republic of Korea noted that the offenders numbered around 20. The South Korean side announced a warning using equipment and then fired warning shots, after which the DPRK military personnel returned to their territory. They clarified that Seoul does not believe that North Korean soldiers have deliberately breached the border.
Previously, on June 9, it became known that the DPRK again released balloons with garbage and fertilizer in South Korea. Over 80 landed on the territory of the latter.
On June 6, South Korea retaliated against North Korea, which also sent balloons of fertilizer and garbage in late May. Seoul sent Pyongyang balloons with Korean dramas (series) and K-pop on USB drives.
Earlier, on June 2, North Korea explained the launch of fertilizer balloons towards South Korea. Pyongyang is known to have done this in response to the distribution of propaganda leaflets from Seoul.
