The UAE has a positive experience of hosting high-level meetings and could become a venue for a summit between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the newly elected US President Donald Trump. This opinion was expressed to TASS by Oleg Karpovich, deputy rector of the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“Donald Trump said during the election campaign that he would help resolve the Ukrainian crisis. Now it is time to move to a new stage and fulfill the promises made“, Karpovich noted. - Trump understood that Joe Biden's policy led to a deep crisis in Russian-American relations, surpassing even the Cuban crisis of the 1960s. It is obvious that some action must be taken, because the world is very electrified.“
„As for the meeting place, Switzerland will not be on the list of countries that can become a platform for negotiations. Switzerland ceased to be a neutral country when it joined the anti-Russian sanctions. We do not have the previous trust in this country“, the expert noted.
"Therefore, a country in the Middle East will probably be chosen. The UAE has repeatedly participated in various types of exchanges, negotiations and consultations. The country has positive experience in conducting this type of negotiations.
Of course, Russia's position is that we will proceed from the real situation on the ground. Russian troops are moving forward,", he concluded.
