Accused persons in a pre-trial detention center in Russia's Rostov region took two law enforcement officials hostage, the Russian authorities announced today, as quoted by Reuters and BTA.
"The institution is functioning normally, the situation is under control," said a message from the Russian Service for the Execution of Punishments on the communication application "Telegram".
The statement also said that law enforcement officials were called to the scene.
The five men who took hostages in the pre-trial detention center in the Rostov region claim to be supporters of the terrorist organization "Islamic State", reported the channel in "Telegram". Baza, citing law enforcement sources.
Russian news agency RIA reported, citing unnamed sources, that the defendants who took the hostages were charged with terrorism.
