The White House has officially confirmed the authorization Armed Forces of Ukraine to use American weapons on Russian territory in the region of Kharkiv and Sumy in Ukraine, reports "Ukrinform".
The clearance was confirmed Wednesday (June 19) by Michael Carpenter, senior director for European affairs at the White House National Security Council.
"We were fully aware that this authorization to use (American weapons) allowed the Ukrainians to fire back at Russian positions just across the border in Kharkiv Oblast, as well as in Sumy Oblast," the US administration representative said.
He emphasized that in this way, Russia will be deprived of the opportunity to shelter its troops on its own side of the border, from where it attacks Ukrainian territory.
As "Ukrinform" reports, in recent months the Russians have gathered forces from their own side of the border near the Kharkiv and Sumy regions of Ukraine, from where they continue to attack Ukrainian positions.
