The authorities in Israel want to use Elon Musk's Starlink in a potential escalation of the military conflict with the Lebanese group "Hezbollah" on the northern border, reports "Reuters".
Starlink will be needed in the event of a power outage in Israel.
Financial daily Calcalist said the finance and communications ministries want to use Starlink's 5,000 low-orbit satellites to provide a steady flow of data and information to government authorities during emergencies.
Both ministries did not comment to "Reuters".
In February, Communications Minister Shlomo Karhi gave permission for Starlink, SpaceX's satellite unit, to operate in Israel and the Gaza Strip.
We remind you that the Iranian-backed "Hezbollah" began attacking Israel shortly after a Hamas attack on October 7 ignited the Gaza war, and the countries have traded blows in the months since. Hezbollah has said it will not stop until there is a ceasefire in Gaza.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant headed to Washington on Sunday to discuss the next phase of the war in Gaza and the escalating hostilities along the border with Lebanon, where the exchange of fire with "Hezbollah" raised fears of a wider conflict. All-out war in the north could lead to missile attacks on Israel's power grid and other infrastructure.
In October, Israel declared against Starlink operating over the Gaza Strip, lest it be used by "Hamas".
