Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov commented on the decision of the International criminal court to issue arrest warrants for former Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu and the head of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov, the BBC Russian service quoted him as saying.
"We consider them quite absurd, like the last two orders that concerned the head of state and our children's ombudsman," Peskov said, answering a question from journalists on Wednesday (quoted by Interfax agency).
"We do not accept the jurisdiction of this court and are not members of the relevant statute. Accordingly, we do not recognize these orders," Peskov added.
On Tuesday, the pre-trial panel of the ICC issued arrest warrants for Shoigu and Gerasimov in connection with the strikes against Ukrainian energy facilities, which began in the fall of 2022.
Such strikes, according to the judges, were directed against the civilian population of Ukraine and therefore have the characteristics of a war crime and crimes against humanity.
On March 17, 2023, the ICC issued an arrest warrant for President Putin and Children's Ombudsman Lvova-Belova.
Putin and Lvova-Belova are believed to be responsible for the war crime of illegal deportation and illegal transfer of children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to the Russian Federation, the ICC said at the time.
