Zelensky: Viktor Orbán's visit is a clear signal of the importance of unity in Europe - 1

Prime Minister Viktor Orban's visit to Ukraine is a clear signal of how important it is to preserve unity in Europe, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday in a video address, a correspondent of Ukrinform reported, quoted by BTA.

"Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's visit to Ukraine is the first for many years and, as well as for the entire duration of the war. And importantly, it is right after the beginning of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union. This is a clear signal of how important it is for all of us in Europe to remain united and take joint steps. We have talked a lot about the path to peace, and it is to a just peace, a lasting, honest peace," the president said.

Zelensky also thanked Hungary for its participation in the peace summit held in Switzerland and for supporting the communique after it ended.

"He told us about what we have already achieved with our partners in inter-summit work, preparing for the second peace summit. There is good development and more to come. I invited Hungary and Prime Minister Orbán to join the relevant efforts. We also have good bilateral results", noted the president and added that "these are completely different relations between Ukraine and Hungary: they are concrete and we consider mutual interests".

"We have agreed on various details - economic, political - that our teams will deal with. And it is very important to outline our relations, our achievements in a new document - in an agreement that will define the good neighborliness of Ukraine and Hungary," Zelensky summarized.

As previously reported, Orbán arrived yesterday in Kiev on an official visit for the first time since the start of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. On Monday, July 1, Hungary assumed the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union for a period of six months, notes Ukrinform.

Zelensky and Orbán agreed to work on a global agreement that would resolve differences between Ukraine and Hungary and could be based on a mirror approach from both sides.
