At least 300 Bangladeshi police officers were injured during clashes with protesters in Dhaka in the last 24 hours.

„At least 150 policemen were hospitalized and another 150 received first aid,” Metropolitan Police spokesman Farooq Hossain told reporters, as quoted by the Firstpost news portal. He added that police were dealing with "hundreds of thousands" protesters.

Meanwhile, Indian students are fleeing to Bangladesh and studying at universities there (tuition fees in Bangladesh for many majors are lower than in India). According to the Indian Express newspaper, more than 400 students have crossed over to the Indian side from Bangladeshi territory in the last 24 hours, fearing instability in Dhaka and other cities where they study. Earlier, Indian Ministry of External Affairs official Randhir Jaiswal said there are currently around 15,000 Indians in Bangladesh, including 8,500 students.

Clashes between students and police continue in Bangladesh. At least 105 people died, 55 of them in the capital. A nationwide curfew has been declared and troops have been sent to Dhaka and other cities. The protests in Bangladesh began earlier this month after hundreds of students from private and public universities across the country protested job quotas for relatives of freedom fighters who fought in the 1971 war of independence. They were considered discriminatory. Nearly 32 million youth are unemployed or underemployed in the country of 170 million. They believe that the authorities are not doing enough to fight unemployment and want the resignation of the prime minister.
