A small plane with 10 people on board crashed today in the center of the tourist city of Gramado in southern Brazil, civil defense officials said, and according to initial data, there were no survivors, cited by Reuters and BTA.
“Unfortunately, initial data indicate that none of the plane's passengers survived,“ Governor Eduardo Leite said on the social network “Ex”..
According to the public security service of the state of Rio Grande do Sul, at least 15 people were taken to the city's hospital, most of them inhaling smoke caused by a fire caused by the crash.
The plane is reported to have first hit the the chimney of a building, then into the second floor of a house before crashing into a furniture store. Debris also reached a nearby hotel.
Gramadu is the most popular tourist destination in Rio Grande do Sul, which was hit hard earlier this year by unprecedented floods that claimed dozens of lives, destroyed infrastructure and severely damaged the state's economy.
