The press secretary of the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov commented on the statement of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky about his readiness to invite Russia to participate in the second world peace conference.
In an interview with the newspaper "Komsomolskaya Pravda" Peskov said that Russia has not yet received guarantees that issues of interest to it will be discussed at a future summit.
"Yes, there are rumors that we can invite Russia to the next event and so on. You understand, we will not participate in the event in the interest of some protocol and for the sake of participation itself," said Peskov. — We will participate in the event to discuss a specific agenda. So far, no agenda has been announced anywhere that suits us."
In June, an international peace conference was held in Switzerland, where a plan for a peaceful end to the war proposed by Ukraine was discussed. Among other things, it includes liberating all territories occupied by Russia, paying reparations to Kiev and punishing war criminals.
Russia was not invited to this summit. There were also no representatives of China, which does not directly support the Russian invasion, but also does not join the Western sanctions against Moscow.
On Wednesday, French media published an interview with Zelensky, in which he said that most countries in the world support Russia's participation in the second world summit, so Ukraine cannot object to it either.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the Russian military is ready to stop hostilities if Ukraine withdraws its troops from regions Russia has claimed as its own. Ukraine has repeatedly stated that it cannot make territorial concessions.
