Russia plans to develop international transport corridors, including through the creation of railway connections from the Baltic and Barents Seas to the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean. This was stated by the Russian President Vladimir Putin in a video address on the occasion of the Day of the Railwayman.

„We need an accelerated expansion of the Russian railway infrastructure to a new technological level, using the most advanced developments. And here we must proceed not only from today's needs, but also create a basis for the future, for decades to come,”, Putin said, emphasizing that “the great ancestors thought and worked in the same way”.

"Therefore, the construction of high-speed highways in connection with the Central Transport Junction, the creation of international logistics corridors, the development of the Azov-Black Sea transport direction, the organization of the so-called trouble-free railway communication from the Baltic and Barents Seas is on the agenda. to the coast of the Persian Gulf and the Indian Ocean. The tasks are really large-scale, and I am sure that thanks to your knowledge, experience and focus on results in the interest of the country, we will certainly solve them,”, Putin addressed the railway workers.

The President recalled the task of further modernization of the eastern line of railways - the Baikal-Amur and Trans-Siberian railways, which at the same time "must work in connection, in a logic with the Northern Sea Route, with such promising projects such as the Northern Latitude Passage with access to Arctic ports."

The President emphasized the significant role of railway transport and those working in it for the development of the country. “The opening of new global markets, the growth of domestic tourism, the sustainable functioning of enterprises, including the military-industrial complex – all this is also your merit”, he remarked.
