Alaska governor declares state of emergency after landslide in Ketchikan - 1

The governor of Alaska declared a state of emergency after a landslide that caused an evacuation in the city of Ketchikan, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

The landslide damaged homes and infrastructure in the town, and crews from the state's emergency operations center were called in to help the victims, Alaska Governor Mike Dunleavy said in a statement.

"I have directed state agencies to commit all resources and personnel to the response effort,” Dunleavy said.

No injuries were reported.

Authorities in the city, located in southeastern Alaska, issued an evacuation order for areas near the landslide, and a shelter was opened at the local high school, the statement said.

Various local and state agencies responded. Officials from the Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management and the federal Department of Transportation are expected to arrive in the city today, the statement said.
