An Albanian citizen armed with a machete was detained in the city of Linz am Rhein after an attempt to attack police officers on Friday evening, reported the main police department of the city of Koblenz in Rhineland-Palatinate, reports the Associated Press, quoted by BTA.

"A man armed with a machete entered the lobby of the police station (in Linz am Rhein) and threatened to kill the officers of the station,", the statement said.

As the police immediately remotely locked the entrance hall on both sides, the perpetrator could not harm anyone, the message further specifies.

"After using a stun gun, the man in the lobby was secured and taken into custody by the special forces officers. At the same time, the man received minor injuries," the law enforcement authorities added.

According to the police, the detainee is from Albania and lives in Linz. Local media quoted police as saying the man shouted "Allah Akbar" as he tried to attack the officers, as the attacker had done earlier in Solingen.

Germany has been hit by a wave of knife attacks in recent months. One of the most notable attacks took place in Solingen on August 23, when a Syrian citizen killed three people and wounded eight others. The attack in Solingen has intensified the debate about stricter migration policies and rules on carrying bladed weapons.
