The Belgian Charleroi airport has stopped working today due to a sudden strike, local media reported. About 20,000 passengers are expected to be affected. A check on the website of the airport shows that among the canceled flights for today there are two from Bulgaria – from Sofia and Varna. Low-cost and charter airlines fly to Charleroi, as quoted by BTA.

The Flight of "Weezer" to Brussels from Sofia Airport at 12:50 has been cancelled, the airport's website says. In addition, the flight from Brussels, scheduled to land at 19:00, has also been cancelled. For tomorrow, September 13, a flight of the same company is still listed as scheduled.

At the airport in Varna, the flight to Brussels on the "Weezer" at 11:50 is also cancelled. This is the situation with the plane landing at 18:25.

The reason for the strike is the employees' dissatisfaction with the airport management and the excessive workload. Unions issued a strike warning earlier this month, calling for a work stoppage after September 19, but employees have not waited for that deadline.

A spokesman for the airport explained that due to the strike action, quality flight processing cannot be ensured. Passengers should contact the airline that issued their tickets to determine if they will be traveling on another date or if they can request a refund.
