Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian has categorically rejected accusations against the Islamic Republic of plotting to assassinate US President-elect Donald Trump.
„This is yet another fabrication spread by Israel and other countries to incite Iranophobia. Iran has never made and will not make such attempts“, the Iranian president stressed in an interview with the NBC News television channel.
In July and September 2024, attempts were made in the United States to assassinate Trump. After them, the politician said that Iran posed a threat to his life. According to the Republicans, US intelligence has informed them of "real and concrete threats from Iran" aimed at destabilizing the United States. The Islamic Republic's Foreign Ministry called these allegations false. According to Iranian authorities, they were part of Trump's election campaign.
On November 8, the US Department of Justice charged Farhad Shakeri, a 51-year-old Iranian citizen, who was allegedly tasked with developing a plan to assassinate Trump. He remains at large and is believed to be in the Islamic Republic. US Federal Bureau of Investigation Director Christopher Wray, for his part, alleged that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had conspired with criminals to organize political assassinations on American soil.
