The President of Syria Bashar Assad issued a decree by which he commissioned the former Minister of Communications and Technology Mohammad Ghazi al-Jalali to form a new government for the country , reported Reuters.
The new government will replace the caretaker government that runs the country after parliamentary elections held in mid-July.
Al Jalali held the post of Minister of Communications and Technology from 2014 to 2016. Since 2014, he has been on the EU sanctions list for being "responsible for regime violence against the civilian population during repression" .
According to the United Nations, at least 350,000 people have been killed in the civil war in Syria, which grew into a rebellion against the Assad regime in 2011, Reuters notes.
