A car moving at high speed ran over several people yesterday in the Italian region of Tuscany, killing two on the spot young German women, local authorities reported, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Mayor Marcello Pierucci stated that a car traveling at "insane speed” in Camaiore, about 80 km west of Florence, he first ran over two German tourists "about 20 years old", then hit six more people and finally crashed into a parked car.
The two German women died, and one of the other six hit is in serious condition, Pierucci said. The driver was arrested.
The Italian news agency ANSA reported that the two German citizens, who it said were born in 2005 and 2006, died at the scene. The agency spoke of a total of seven people hit, citing the police in Lucca. Initially, the police did not confirm the information to DPA.
ANSA reported that all the people hit were taken to hospital, and the driver, a 44-year-old woman, underwent toxicology tests.
