Ursula von der Leyen gathered the candidates for new European commissioners in Brussels. This was the first meeting of all 27 experts proposed for the most influential body of the European Union, NOVA reported.
The gathering took place a day after the German officially presented the candidates. They must be approved by the European Parliament before taking up the posts, roughly equivalent to ministerial positions in national governments.
Each country from the European Union gets one seat in the Commission. But there is no guarantee that proposals will be approved. In the past, it happened that the parliament blocked one of the candidates after the hearings. Now the Hungarian representative Oliver Varhey is being pointed out as one of those who will have problems.
