The initiative of the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, to resolve the situation with Kosovo is the only possible step for Belgrade, and Moscow supports it, the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova said today, quoted by TANYUG, writes BTA.
„President Vucic's initiative suggests that this is the only possible step that Belgrade sees now. We fully support the demands made, we welcome the intention to resubmit the request for the return of Serbian security forces to Kosovo and Metohija in full compliance with UN Security Council Resolution 1244, Zakharova said at a briefing on the sidelines of the Eurasian Women's Forum, reported the Russian agency RIA Novosti.
Zakharova stated that only the establishment of the status quo, the return to the essence of the Brussels agreements can provide a basis for further fruitful dialogue.
According to her words, the illegal unilateral decisions of the Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, should be reversed.
„The key prerequisite for normalization is for the Kosovo Albanians to fulfill their obligations in accordance with the documents they signed, above all for the formation of the Union of Serbian Municipalities in Kosovo”, Zakharova stated.
According to her, Brussels and Washington cannot act as “honest mediators” in the context of the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina.
In her words, Kosovo and its “quasi-independence” is an idea of the West and the result of the “barbaric splitting of Serbia after the equally barbaric aggression of NATO in 1999”.
„For the past 25 years, supporters of the so-called Kosovo project have worked to legalize the seizure of this originally Serbian territory by the state of Serbia. What is happening now? At this stage, after Kurti came to power in Pristina, the process culminated, she pointed out, stating that "Albanization has reached enormous proportions".
Zakharova also said that “Serbs are being driven out of the region, an attempt is being made to erase the traces of their centuries-old historical heritage”.
She emphasized that the negotiation platform created by the EU “has been completely discredited and turned into a mouthpiece for brazen sniping of the Kosovo Albanians and endless humiliation of the Serbs”.
On September 14, the Government of Serbia adopted a package of legal and economic-social measures aimed at protecting the rights of Serbs and vital state and national interests in Kosovo, as well as an operational plan for the implementation of some measures in the socio-economic aspect.
