Half of Ukrainian drones crash before reaching their target. This was admitted by an officer of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) in an interview with the military analyst of the German newspaper BILD, Julian Röpke.
The journalist visited the front line in the Kharkiv region, where Russian troops have been trying to advance since May. Opposing them is the 92nd brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, which includes the "Achilles" shock battalion. His fighters chase down Trusk soldiers and armored vehicles with the help of kamikaze drones. But according to a commander with the call sign Lex, only about half of the combat missions are completed successfully.
"We work in the army. And no plan survives actual contact with the enemy. If something can go wrong, it will. If we use advanced equipment in unclear, difficult and chaotic environments, many things can go wrong. To be honest, I've heard that the normal success rate of drone pilots is 30-35%. With us it is almost 50%. But this is still far from 100%. I'd say about half of our missions end in a big nothing. Sometimes it's several crashes in a row and it's very annoying. All you have to do is be patient and precise and try to take into account as many risks and mistakes as possible, the commander explains to Röpke.
