Iran threatens Israel with painful blow in response to missile fire - 1

The head of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, Hossein Salami, has threatened Israel with a painful blow if it decides to attack Iranian targets in retaliation for the rocket fire on Israeli territory since October 1, AFP reported, quoted by BTA.

"If you make a mistake and attack our targets, whether in the region or in Iran, we will hit you hard again," warned General Salami.

He attended the funeral of General Abbas Nilforoushan of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, killed in an Israeli strike in September in Lebanon that also killed the former head of "Hezbollah" Hassan Nasrallah.

On October 1, Iran fired about 200 missiles at Israel. For the first time, several hypersonic missiles were also included in the attack. The strikes were presented by Tehran as revenge for both the death of Nasrallah and the killing of the former head of the Lebanese wing of "Hamas" Ismail Haniya, for which Israel was also accused.

Israel has already said Iran will pay a heavy price for the attack.

During his speech, Salami criticized the United States for recently supplying Israel with the TAAD missile defense system. According to him, it is not a reliable shield against an Iranian attack.

„We know your weaknesses, you know this. You know how vulnerable you are,” he added.

Salami's comments come at a time when Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is stepping up diplomatic consultations in an effort to reduce tensions in the region.

Aragchi successively visited Lebanon, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Iraq and Oman. Oman is a country that generally acts as an intermediary in indirect negotiations with the United States, notes AFP.

The Iranian foreign minister traveled to Jordan yesterday, and today he is visiting Egypt. This is the first visit of Iran's number one diplomat to Egypt in nearly twelve years.
