One of Kazakhstan's most famous businessmen has died

Alexander Mashkevich was the founder of the mining company ERG

The founder of one of the largest mining holdings Eurasian Resources Group (ERG) in Kazakhstan, Alexander Mashkevich, has died at the age of 72, the company's press service reported.

The businessman died after a long illness, the statement said.

From 2014 to 2024, Mashkevich was the chairman of the board of directors of the company, and also headed Eurasian Bank JSC.

ERG is a large Kazakh holding company engaged in the extraction and processing of natural resources. The company unites a third of the mining and metallurgical enterprises in the republic, and also extracts copper and cobalt ore in African countries and iron ore in Brazil.

Mashkevich was a well-known businessman in Kazakhstan, was awarded state awards of the republic, and was also awarded the Order of “St. Sergius of Radonezh“ 2nd degree of the Russian Orthodox Church for his contribution to the construction of an Orthodox church in Aktobe.
