US President Joe Biden called the death of the leader of the Palestinian armed group "Hamas" ; Yahya Sinuar a moment of relief for the Israelis and noted that at the same time this is an opportunity for a "new beginning" in the Gaza Strip, without the ruling group there, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
"Yahia Sinuar was an insurmountable obstacle to the achievement of all these goals. That obstacle no longer exists, but we still have a lot of work to do,'' Biden said in a statement. "I will soon be speaking with Prime Minister Netanyahu and other Israeli leaders to congratulate them, to discuss the way to return the hostages home to their families and to end once and for all this war that has caused so much destruction and suffering to innocent people," he added.
After Israeli authorities confirmed that Sinwar was killed by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), US Vice President Kamala Harris called his killing a step forward in eliminating the threat the militant group poses to Israel.
The killing of Sinuar "gives us an opportunity to finally end the war in Gaza," said Harris. "Justice prevailed," she told reporters in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. "Sinowar is responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent people, including the victims of October 7 and the hostages killed in Gaza," she added.
"Today I can only hope that the families of the victims of "Hamas" will feel relieved, Harris said.
