BRICS has become a global center of international gravity to which many countries seeking mutually beneficial cooperation show practical interest. This was said by the head of state during his speech at the 16th BRICS summit in Kazan, Kazinform correspondent reports.

President Kassim-Jomart Tokayev also noted that BRICS has a huge potential for development and unites countries from different continents, strengthening solidarity and effectively using joint opportunities for the benefit of all participants. “BRICS has both the resources and the experience to build a future based on the principles of shared prosperity, mutual respect and partnership,” said the head of state. “The fact that we have really friendly relations with every BRICS member country is extremely important for Kazakhstan”, the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan emphasized.

We remind you that from October 22 to 24, a summit meeting of the BRICS member countries is being held in Kazan. The event was attended by several heads of state, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, as well as others.

An extended BRICS summit was held on October 23. At the same time, a meeting of the participants of the summit was held in a narrow composition. At the meeting, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed to draw up a list of BRICS partner countries and write this in the final declaration; he also said that more than 30 countries have expressed interest in joining as part of BRICS.

Earlier it was reported that Kasim-Jomart Tokayev arrived at the meeting of the leaders of the BRICS countries and held short talks with the participants of the XVI summit.

The heads of state of the BRICS member states approved the final Kazan Declaration following the results of the current summit. The document summarizes the results of this event and will be presented to the UN as a joint statement, Kazinform correspondent reports.

Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the approval of the declaration during his speech. It contains general assessments of the world situation, the results of Russia's work as the BRICS chairman, and also outlines long-term areas of cooperation.

Previously, the Russian leader claimed that the declaration should reflect decisions on the future expansion of BRICS. Some international issues were raised. He also emphasized that the Kazan Declaration from the BRICS meeting will be distributed as a common joint document of the association.

In addition, the declaration opposed the arms race in space and the deployment of weapons in outer space.

„We reaffirm our support for ensuring the long-term sustainability of space activities and preventing an arms race in space and the deployment of weapons in space, including through negotiations for the adoption of an appropriate multilateral legal instrument to ensure global security,” says the document.
