US President-elect Republican Donald Trump accepted Joe Biden's invitation to meet between the two in the White House, his campaign official announced last night, quoted by DPA and BTA.
Trump won a historic second term as president after defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in the presidential election.
Biden called Trump to congratulate him on his victory and reiterated his invitation for the two to meet at the White House to discuss ensuring a smooth transition of power, said Stephen Chung, a spokesman for the campaign staff of the newly elected American president.< /p>
„President Trump looks forward to the meeting that will take place soon and appreciates the call,”, he added.
Trump lost the 2020 presidential election to Biden. To this day, he refuses to admit his loss. Trump also did not attend the swearing-in ceremony by Biden, breaking tradition, DPA recalls.
The American president will address the nation at 11 a.m. local time (4 p.m. GMT) today, the White House announced last night.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer spoke with newly elected US President Donald Trump and congratulated him on his victory, Reuters reported, citing BTA.
„The Prime Minister offered warm congratulations and said he looked forward to working closely with President-elect Trump in all areas of the special relationship,” said a statement from the Starmer administration.
„The leaders agreed that, from defense and security to growth and prosperity, the UK-US relationship is incredibly strong and will continue to thrive for many years to come,” the statement added, adding that “ "the prime minister highlighted the situation in the Middle East and emphasized the importance of regional stability".
