The US Department of Defense confirmed today strikes against pro-Iranian groups in Yemen and Syria, reports DPA. Over the weekend, US forces carried out airstrikes on weapons depots used by the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen. According to Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder, these facilities store advanced weapons used in attacks against US and international ships in international waters in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.
In Syria, the US military attacked a weapons depot and a logistics center belonging to another pro-Iranian group, the US Central Command said. “We have made it clear that attacks on US military personnel and facilities will not be tolerated,” said Commanding General Michael Eric Kurilla.
Since the beginning of the conflict in the Gaza Strip, Yemen's Houthis have carried out attacks on merchant ships in the Red Sea, a strategic corridor to the Mediterranean Sea, to hamper shipping to Israel, sources close to the movement said.
