Bolivia received invitation to become a BRICS partner country and responded positively to the offer. This was announced by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the country, Celinda Sosa, to TASS during the 29th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP-29), which is being held in Baku, as quoted by Focus.
"We are very grateful to the president of fraternal Russia for the support to Bolivia in BRICS. Today we received an invitation from the Russian Foreign Minister, to which we responded positively,“ explained Sosa.
The minister emphasized that "BRICS is a new alternative that can help, above all, countries like Bolivia, but also many others." According to her, in this format, Bolivia will have the opportunity to strengthen the mechanisms of multilateral cooperation, including with the countries of the Global South. "In the past, many countries received funding, but it was tied to strict conditions, leading to poverty instead of prosperity and development,” Sosa added.
She noted that BRICS represents "an excellent alternative for the development and strengthening of countries like Bolivia." Sosa expressed satisfaction with Cuba's partnership as well, stressing the importance of its resistance against imperialism and the economic blockade. "Accepting Cuba as a BRICS partner demonstrates a vision of integration and multilateralism in which all countries have the opportunity to develop,” she pointed out.
"Our countries possess wealth, wisdom and, above all, independence in the decision-making process. This aspiration for unification is becoming a reality thanks to the spirit of integration among the BRICS countries,“ summed up the Bolivian foreign minister.
