Jihadists have captured most of Aleppo - 1

Jihadists and their allies captured most of the city of Aleppo after an offensive against government forces, reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights - a non-governmental organization monitoring the development of the conflict in Syria, AFP reported, quoted by BTA.

The group "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham" and allied rebel factions have established control over most of the city, the center said. He added that Russian fighter jets struck Syria's second-largest city for the first time since 2016.

The dead so far are 311 - 183 jihadists and their allies, 100 soldiers and members of pro-government forces and 28 civilians, according to the UK-based NGO, which has a wide network of sources in Syria.

Syrian government media reported 4 civilians killed in a student dormitory in Aleppo bombed by the jihadists.

During the civil war that broke out in 2011, killing over half a million people and displacing millions, the armed group Hayat Tahrir al-Sham, dominated by the former Syrian branch of al-Qaeda, took control of large parts of Idlib province and neighboring areas in Aleppo, Hama and Latakia. The Syrian regime regained control over a large part of the country in 2015 with the support of its allies Iran and Russia.

In March 2020, a ceasefire agreement was concluded under the auspices of Moscow and Ankara.
